Diamond willow is one of the most beautiful woods in the world for making a walking stick or cane, prized for its contrasting red and white colour and the irregular sculpted look of the wood. It is strong, light, and features natural diamond shapes that appear along its length. 

The "diamonds" in the willow are actually a deformity caused by a fungus that eventually makes the limbs of the willow drop off, leaving behind diamond-like depressions in the wood. Diamond willow can be dark or blonde depending on age, amount of weathering and the time of harvest.
